Billing & Scope Fixes — September 21, 2026
All billing issues raised by the Shopify review team have been fixed and verified. This section documents the proof of resolution.

Fixed. The complete billing flow now works correctly as shown in the proof video below.
What the video proves:
- Fresh install → "Choose your plan" banner appears automatically on dashboard
- Select Starter Monthly → Shopify approval screen appears
- Approve charge → lands on billing page showing Starter Monthly as Current Plan
- Switch Monthly to Annual → new Shopify approval screen → Current Plan updates to Starter Annual
- Upgrade to Growth Annual → Shopify approval screen → Current Plan updates to Growth Annual
- Downgrade to Free → subscription cancelled → Free plan activated
- Uninstall app → Reinstall app → "Choose your plan" banner appears again automatically
- Select same Starter Monthly plan → NEW Shopify approval screen appears
- Approve → Starter Monthly shows as Current Plan again
The same plan can be activated multiple times. Every reinstall requires a fresh Shopify billing approval — this is guaranteed.

Issue 2 — Checkout Scope (read_checkout_external_data)
Fixed. Both checkout extensions have been completely removed from the app:

The read_checkout_external_data scope has been removed from shopify.app.toml and the active Partners version.

Current active scopes in waconnect-app-68:
read_customers, read_orders, write_orders, read_fulfillments, read_inventory, read_products, write_discounts, read_draft_orders, write_draft_orders
No checkout scope present. WhatsApp integration remains available via the storefront floating widget.
Issue 3 — Checkout Extension Visibility (Requirement 5.6.1)
Fixed. Both checkout UI extensions have been removed. The storefront floating WhatsApp widget remains active and provides WhatsApp access to customers across all pages without requiring a checkout extension.
Bug Fixes — September 2026
The following issues raised by the Shopify review team have been fixed. Please reinstall WaConnect on store1app.myshopify.com to verify all fixes.
Fix 1 — Billing approval on reinstall (requirement 1.2.2)
WaConnect now verifies directly with Shopify at reinstall time whether a subscription exists. If the merchant reinstalls, the old subscription is cancelled and a fresh Shopify billing approval screen is shown — even for the same plan. A "Choose your plan" banner now appears automatically on the dashboard after reinstall.
Fix 2 — Current plan button (requirement 1.2.2)
The billing page now correctly shows "Current Plan" (disabled) for the merchant's active plan and interval. Merchants can only switch between monthly and annual — they cannot reactivate the same plan they already have.
Fix 3 — Checkout extensions removed (requirement 5.6.1)
Both checkout extensions (waconnect-otp-checkout and waconnect-optin-block) have been removed from the app. WhatsApp integration is available via the storefront floating widget, which works across all pages.

- Prefer testing on store1app.myshopify.com (your store) — see screencast above — or use our demo store with Partner Dashboard login.
- Open the WaConnect app from Apps.
- WhatsApp is already connected (visible under WhatsApp settings — connection status shows Connected).
- Place a test order (Cash on Delivery), entering your own WhatsApp number as the customer phone.
- You will receive an order confirmation on WhatsApp with Confirm and Cancel buttons.
- Tap Confirm or Cancel to test the full flow.
Keep the optional storefront Checkout button and OTP OFF unless you are specifically testing those optional paths. Native Shopify checkout remains the payment path.
Billing — Monthly / Annual & Plan Switching
Merchants can switch between Monthly and Annual billing, and between any plan, directly in the app. No reinstall and no contacting support.
- Open Billing in WaConnect.
- Use the large Monthly / Annual toggle at the top of the pricing section (Annual shows Save 25%).
- On your current plan card, choose Switch to Annual or Switch to Monthly, or pick another plan (Upgrade / Downgrade).
- WaConnect cancels the current Shopify subscription and creates the new one; Shopify asks you to approve the charge. The new charge appears in the merchant's Shopify Admin billing / charge history.
Checkout & payments (Shopify policy 1.1.2)
WaConnect does not bypass Shopify checkout. All orders are placed through native Shopify checkout. WaConnect is a WhatsApp messaging layer on top of the merchant's existing Shopify order flow. WaConnect does not process card payments.
The optional WhatsApp Checkout Button and OTP verification are OFF by default on new installs. Native Buy/Checkout buttons stay visible until a merchant explicitly enables the optional widget. Shoppers who use OTP still complete payment at Shopify /checkout.
Test store: waconnect-qo0jcaeb.myshopify.com — keep checkout button and OTP OFF for review unless testing that optional path.
API scope summary (App review notes)
WaConnect is a WhatsApp automation app for Shopify. All customer purchases complete through native Shopify checkout. WaConnect does not process payments or create orders outside checkout. read_orders — Read order details (number, customer phone, line items, totals, status) to send WhatsApp order confirmations, shipping/delivery updates, refund notifications, and abandoned-checkout recovery when merchants enable those automations. write_orders — When a customer taps Cancel on the WhatsApp order-confirmation message (or replies CANCEL), WaConnect cancels the Shopify order and adds confirmation/cancellation tags so merchants see status in Admin. Merchants enable this on the WhatsApp page. read_customers — Read customer profile fields for optional birthday greeting messages and to check WhatsApp marketing opt-in status before sending promotional messages. read_fulfillments — Read fulfillment and tracking data to send WhatsApp shipping and delivery notifications when merchants fulfill orders. read_inventory — Detect when a variant is back in stock and notify shoppers who subscribed on the sold-out product page. read_products — Include correct product titles and storefront URLs in back-in-stock, winback, and reorder WhatsApp messages. write_discounts — When merchants enable abandoned-cart recovery, winback, or post-purchase upsell, WaConnect creates single-use Shopify discount codes and sends them via WhatsApp. Codes are not created for every message — only when those optional features are turned on. read_draft_orders / write_draft_orders — When merchants enable COD→prepaid conversion offers, WaConnect creates a Shopify draft invoice with the prepaid discount applied so customers can pay online. The draft is invoice-only (online payment); it does not replace native Shopify checkout. Optional storefront checkout button and OTP are OFF by default. Native Shopify checkout/Buy buttons remain until the merchant explicitly enables the optional widget; shoppers still pay through Shopify checkout.

read_orders
Why: WaConnect sends WhatsApp messages when Shopify orders are created, updated, or refunded. Webhooks (orders/create, refunds/create) and order data power order confirmation, refund updates, COD protection analytics, and inbox context.
Customer benefit: Automatic WhatsApp order confirmation and refund notifications without manual copy-paste.
write_orders
Why: When a customer taps Cancel on the WhatsApp order-confirmation message (or replies CANCEL), WaConnect cancels the corresponding Shopify order and applies confirmation/cancellation tags. Merchants see status in Admin.
Customer benefit: Customers can confirm or cancel COD orders from WhatsApp; merchants reduce fake orders.
